Thousand Year Old Vampire is a solo RPG of memory, loss, and vampires, designed by Tim Hutchings. As one of the most acclaimed indie TTRPG titles in the solo tabletop games space, it lets you chronicle the many centuries of a vampire's existence, beginning with the loss of mortality and ending with inevitable destruction. Prompt-driven play and simple resource tracking provide easy rules for exploring your character's human failings, villainous acts, and surprising victories. Expect gut-churning decisions and irreconcilable acts.

The mechanics are simple and intuitive, which makes this vampire RPG accessible whether you're new to solo roleplaying games or a veteran TTRPG player. Play progresses semi-randomly through a book of Prompts that let you explore your vampire's wants and needs, resolve problems, and chart the decline into senescence. As a prompt driven RPG, there is no game master: the prompts generate writing tasks that record memories, relationships, and losses across the ages. Play can happen entirely within the character sheet or can become a journaling activity, and both work equally well.

The core mechanic revolves around memory and forgetting. Your vampire starts with detailed memories such as family, culture, language, and skills, and as centuries pass, prompts force you to lose or distort them. Losing a language means crossing out its words from your journal, so future prompts become harder to interpret. It is part creative-writing exercise, part emotional endurance test, tracking how someone copes with immortality, changing eras, and inevitable isolation.

If you enjoy journaling RPG experiences that push your creativity, this solo RPG delivers thousands of years of stories in one book.
